Mayfest unveils 2024 poster art by Aaron Whisner, reveals main stage acts

Mayfest organizers and The University of Tulsa proudly unveiled the 2024 poster art created by Aaron Whisner, co-founder of Clean Hands Inc., a Tulsa-based design crew and streetwear supplier.

“I remember as a kid seeing the posters for Mayfest and being drawn to many of the artists’ work. With this piece I wanted to pay homage to some classic posters over the years,” Whisner said. “The foundation for a lot of what I create is found in the art of remixing imagery. In designing this piece, I wanted to repurpose sections of some of my favorite posters to make something new in tribute to past Mayfest artists.”

Whisner, an Oklahoma native, is a multidisciplinary artist best known for his large-scale murals and installations. He has been actively painting since the mid-1990s. With roots in graffiti and street art scenes, inspiration is drawn from hand-painted signage, street textures and type. Bold use of imagery and technique is used to capture public attention while maintaining balance with surrounding environments. With each installation, progression is the goal.

“We are energized by Aaron’s work of art and excited to feature it at the 2024 Mayfest,” said Michael Epps, honorary chair for the event. “The inclusion of so many great works of past Mayfests is infused with youth and an edgy vibe. This poster appeals to so many patrons and is sure to be a hit with attendees.”

Mayfest 2024 poster prints will be on sale throughout the festival, which is set for May 10-12 in the Tulsa Arts District. More information on how to buy Mayfest posters and other items will be available soon at TulsaMayfest.org.

MidFirst Bank has returned as presenting sponsor for 2024 Mayfest, marking more than 20 years of vital support for Tulsa’s favorite festival.

“Being the largest privately owned bank in the nation, and remaining Oklahoma owned and operated, enables MidFirst Bank to serve and celebrate communities and events across all of Oklahoma. MidFirst Bank is delighted at the leadership President Carson and The University of Tulsa has extended to this premier festival and arts and humanities in the Tulsa community,” said Scott Stidham, president of the bank’s Tulsa market.

Also Wednesday, Mayfest organizers revealed the acts that will be featured on the main stage: Paw Paw Rod, Samantha Crain, Willie Jones, Josh Fudge, Joleen Brown and John Fullbright with King Cabbage Brass Band.

“This year, we’re highlighting a richly diverse and eclectic array of talent from Tulsa and across the state in music and performing arts. The dedication and passion of these artists are genuinely inspiring,” said Corey Taylor, chair of the Mayfest Music and Performing Arts Committee. “I’m thrilled about the opportunity for us all to reunite, creating an unparalleled Mayfest that will be remembered for years to come.”
